Maybe the Libertarians Were Right

One of the things I was not so sure about when I was a card carrying Libertarian was their position on immigration, but maybe they were right after all. What they wanted was to open all the borders and let people come and go at will. Of course that would mean all the borders, not just the one with Mexico, and it would work both ways, our people could go there as well as their people could come here. You wouldn't need a passport or anything like that, crossing an international border would be no different than crossing an interstate border.

I've been to Canada a few times. It was nice, but I have no plans to go there again. It's just as well, because now you need a passport or a special driver's license. I don't think the intent is to keep out the Canadians, it's to keep out terrorists or other bad guys who might want to enter the US through Canada and vice versa. It's still probably not that hard to cross into Canada, or Mexico either, as a tourist. It's a different matter if you want to live and work there for an extended period, or forever. Funny, you don't hear much about Canadians coming here for that purpose. I wonder if that's because they don't want to or because they are not allowed to. Canadians are famous for being polite and law abiding. Mexicans, not so much.

I used to worry about them taking my guns away, but not anymore. Gun sales went through the roof when Obama tried it, and there are more guns in the country now than ever before. I understand that gun sales are down since Trump took office. That may be because everyone who wants a gun already has one by now, or it may be that Trump is trying to lull us into a false sense of security. I still find it hard to believe that Trump is for real. I think his mission is to give somebody a bad name, Republicans, conservatives, rich people, or maybe all Americans.

Naming hurricanes after dogs wouldn't help. My point is that they shouldn't name hurricanes at all because it just encourages them. A few years ago, the Weather Channel started naming winter storms like they do hurricanes, and the storms seemed to get worse for awhile. Last winter was pretty mild, but that might have been Trump trying to lull us into a false senses of security again. Maybe he was trying to set us up for a bad hurricane season.
