after the storm

I feel for those Floridians, I do.  One of the women in my Marina City art club has a winter home in Florida.  She told me where but I forget exactly, but I believe it was on the west side near the tip, which last night was covered by a big red blob, so she may be spending Christmas in Chicago this year.  All those Americans who didn't have the good sense to live in the midwest like God clearly intended them to, I feel bad for them.

But they certainly ruined the news for me.  Every time I tuned in for some hot political gossip there was some poor new hire of CNN standing out in the wind and the rain telling America that it was windy and there was a lot of rain.  Oh and for human interest they'd find one of those crusty old coots who was going to stay and last it out.  They'd plead with them to come to their senses, but crusty old coots are crusty old coots no?  Then they'd turn to the camera and in their sincerest voice urge anybody in the area watching CNN to get out.

Do you guys ever watch those local tv news promos? where the Channel Two Crew is Fighting for You.  Instead of just sitting in some camera strewn room reading the news and japing lamely with the weatherman, they are and about, walking down sidewalks with their jackets slung over their shoulders, getting into cars and knocking on doors and looking at the camera with that earnest determined look, like they are running for office.

Even my political websites are kind of blah, it's like the politicians are aware that everybody is watching Irma so there's no point in saying anything.  There was a bit of a hush after Trump embraced Chuck and Nancy.  Nobody knew exactly what to say and they were waiting to see what others were going to say so they didn't get out of step.  Since they still don't dare offend the deplorables they decided it was a brilliant coup on the part of Trump.  The pundits said it was the fault of the republican congress, and those in congress hung the blame on Paul and Mitch.

Irma is about to become a boring tropical storm, those reporters will merely be getting soaked instead of hanging onto the railings to keep from being blown off.  The sun will peek out, one assumes Trump will be tweeting in the sunshine.  Things will get back to normal.
