The End of the World

People have been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of the world, and yet the world is still here.  Empires rise and empires fall, but the world keeps chugging along.  Take the Roman Empire for example.  Our history books tell us that the Roman Empire fell in the Fifth Century AD but, truth be known, the eastern part of it kept going for another thousand years.  We call it the Byzantine Empire, but the Byzantine people called themselves Romans until they started calling themselves Turks.  The cities of Rome and Constantinople are still there, and Rome never even changed its name.  A lot of people thought it was the end of the world when Obama was elected, and some different people thought it was the end of the world when Trump was elected, but the world seems to have survived Obama, and I'm pretty sure that it will also survive Trump.  Of course we might not be alive to see it, in which case our world will indeed come to an end.  Maybe that's what people mean when the say "the end of the world", they mean "the world as we know it will end".  I suppose it will, but every ending is also a new beginning, for somebody.

Uncle Ken, if you truly believe that there is no difference between marrying a man and marrying a woman, then I don't know what to tell you.

"If you had hit hard times when our daughter was a child, would you have thought, no prob, I'll just put her up for adoption?" - Uncle Ken.  Probably not, but I certainly wouldn't have had her killed like an unwanted puppy.  It's true that abortions will be performed whether or not they are legal, but the same thing can be said about murder and armed robbery. Does that mean we shouldn't have laws against those things?

"Here's a thought question, if they made guns illegal, but didn't have the man power to knock on every door and search, so they asked everybody to bring them in to the local cop shop, would you comply?" - Uncle Ken.  Probably not.  If the time ever comes that they seriously try to disarm the American people, it will mean that all is lost and it's time for the Revolution.  Nothing left to do but go down fighting like Davy Crocket at the Alamo.

Here's another perspective on a subject that Old Dog brought up a few days ago:
