First of all I want to apologize to Old Dog.  I had scanned that link about the Saudi story too quickly apparently and came away with the idea that the issue was that the Saudis would be foolish to waste their dough on weapons, and pooh poohed it on the grounds that who doesn't want to waste their money on shiny weapons.  Saw another piece last night which I read more slowly and it pointed out that the issue was that the Saudis didn't have the money to waste and no contracts were signed.

But the news moves on at a breathtaking pace.  Now it seems that that Qatar thing that Trump has been bragging about instigating was actually instigated by a Russian hacking, apparently responsible for that Qatari speech which no Qatari ever spoke.  And now this morning ISIS has attacked Iran.

The deal with the sanctions is that they were impressed on Iran to make them halt their nuclear bomb program.  The deal was that if the Iranis halted their nuclear program for a certain amount of years then the sanctions would be lifted, and Iran has indeed halted their nuclear program.  We know they have because we have been inspecting them which is part of the deal.  Lifting the sanctions now that they have complied is our part of the deal.  I go into this detail because the republicans are bleating about how we are giving Iranians the store.  One of those bleaters was that sort of Republican, Trump, who nevertheless is going along with the deal.  Which is pretty sensible so I don't know why he is doing that.


The US has indeed cut its per capita fossil fuel usage.  Which doesn't mean a whole lot to the CO2 in the atmosphere if other countries don't do the same.  The only way to cut the CO2 is if all nations participate, and the incentive for other nations to participate is that they know the other nations are participating.  If me and the Dawgs are sitting in a room with an icebox full of beer for Friday night. It is not enough for me to unilaterally decide not to drink the beer to keep the icebox from being emptied. If we all agree though not to drink the beer until Friday night, we won't feel the urge to raid it beforehand because we know the other guys are good for their words.


And all the other breaking news is Trump.  The morning tweets aren't even in yet.  Thursday will be a big day, but I think there are some hearings going on today.  Oh and now there is that Trump/Sessions rift.
