I Have a Life Offline

I can't look everything up. My internet time is limited because I keep busy most days doing things in real life, not nearly as much as I'd like to, or nearly as much as I used to, but enough that I don't want to spend daylight hours in good weather sitting in front of my computer. The time I allocate to my computer comes out of the time I used to spend watching television. We watch TV while we eat supper, and I used to stay there after supper drinking beer and watching TV till bed time. Now I get up after supper, go into the garage for my smoke break, then come back and play with my computer till bed time. Sometimes, on a bad weather day when I run out of rainy day jobs to do, I put in some additional computer time, and that's about it.

I don't make up the stuff that I bring before the Institute. Sometimes I have heard about something but don't have a lot of details, so I ask you what you know about it. Apparently you interpret this as a challenge, but that is seldom my intent. If I disagree with something you have said, I usually try make that clear, but other times I'm just trying to get your perspective on it. Because your political sentiments are frequently the opposite of mine, I figure you're a good source for a second opinion.

I probably haven't heard about any abortion clinics closing because we don't have any around here, and I am seldom in need of their services. The only reason I know anything about it at all is that I know somebody who had an abortion a few years ago, and she said that she had to go Down Below to get it because none of the doctors around here were willing to do it. If the people who passed that law back in 2012 intended to reduce or restrict the number of abortions being performed, I say "Good for them!" Every abortion that is prevented from happening is one human life saved.

Birth control is another matter. Logically, anybody who is opposed to abortion should be in favor of birth control, but many people don't think all that logically. I always used some form of birth control back in the day, but I remember hearing a lot of guys brag that they didn't, and I always wondered what was the matter with their heads. I understand that it's a religious issue for many people, but it seems to me that anybody who is too religious to use birth control should also be too religious to have sex in the first place. Be that as it may, we already have free birth control for poor people in Michigan. All they have to do is go down to their local health department and fill out some forms. If they're too lazy to do that,  they would probably also be too lazy to use the stuff if they had it.

I don't know what to tell you about those Indians. It seems that they are telling the census people something different than they are telling the rest of us. Most of the ones I have met don't even look like Indians anyway, I wouldn't even know they were Indians if they didn't tell me they were. Other people claim to be able to spot them a mile away, but I don't know how they do it. My hypothetical wife tells me that a lot of people around here used to be prejudiced against Indians, but that has died down over the years. I ventured a guess that the reason might be that many of those people found out that they are Indians. (Okay, I made that one up, but notice that I admitted it was just a guess.) Anyway, if there aren't that many Indians around here, who is operating all those casinos? We may not have any abortion clinics, but we've got several big casinos in the region, and they are talking about opening another one. They seem to have run out of tribal land to site them on, so they want to just buy some land and give it to the government "in trust", which means it will be like a mini reservation. Last I heard, they were still arguing about that one.

I am interested in knowing more about that concealed carry case in Illinois. If you don't want to tell me about it, I suppose I'll have to look it up myself one of these rainy days.
