There's no telling how crowded the field will be for the 2020 Democratic primaries; I think at least ten folks have declared their candidacies or announced exploratory committees but I couldn't name them for you. A few are well known to me but most are people I've never heard of and I expect more unknowns will enter the fray. Whether or not these candidates are serious I can't say but I suspect they see an opportunity to get a little national exposure and decided to go for it. At this point they have very little to lose and with any luck they can enhance their political stature for the next election cycle. I expect a very crowded field by the time the primaries begin early next year, maybe not as crazy as the Republicans in 2016 but crazy none the less.

Infra Red Thermo, how does that work?
Quite well; pull the trigger and read the temperature of the area centered on the red laser dot. The area of measurement is a narrow cone; the closer you are to the object the more accurate your reading because you don't want the background to affect your results. Also, you won't get a good reading if the object being measured is shiny or reflective. It's a fun tool to play with and I've gotten a lot of use out of it. The best feature is that it's instant, right now, no fooling, and a better description of how it works can be found here.

I'm glad the polar vortex has come and gone; some of the pundits were starting to sound like yahoos. Should it really be a surprise that Chicago was colder than Antarctica? It's the summertime in the southern hemisphere, isn't it? And people who were yammering about the cold weather and wondering what happened to global warming should be reminded that Australia is currently enduring a record-breaking heat wave. I think it's easier to stay warm when it's -25F than it is to stay cool when it's +114F, but that's just my opinion.
Right now the temp is in the 40s and is expected to stay above freezing until later in the week when snow is forecast. February has frequently had weird weather as I recall. One year (1976?) it was in the 70s on Lincoln's birthday and then the hammer dropped with a lot of snow and freezing temperatures for the rest of the month. I expect one or two big snowfalls, 6" or more, before winter is over. February is like that.

Big football game starts in less than an hour and I might watch it this year. You never know what's going to happen with live television, maybe another nipple slip? And tomorrow we will learn how many tons of chicken wings, guacamole, and pizza were consumed by the good citizens of 'Murica and that is not fake news.
