Not Trump's wall, just a regular generic wall. Our state's attorney general announced to the media today that the governor's orders are all still in effect and ordered local law enforcement to enforce them. I'm not sure if she has the authority to do that but, as I said, I'm not a lawyer. I don't think there's been all that much enforcement action up till now anyway. The only case I've heard of was a guy who was caught stealing a trailer from an RV dealership being charged with violating the stay at home order on top of the other charges levied against him. We have two tobacco stores in this town and, when I drove past them the other day, they both appeared to be open. I had just bought some tobacco from a gas station, so I didn't stop to check out either tobacco store. Our sheriff has said that he didn't plan on enforcing the mask rule directly but, if a store manager asks you to leave the premises because you aren't wearing a mask, and if you refuse to leave, you could be charged with trespassing. I only know of one store that has been enforcing the mask rule, but of course I haven't been to all of them.
You may remember that my recliner broke shortly after the lockdown was ordered. I've been making do with it until now but, with all the uproar about the governor's orders going on, I thought I'd see what I could find yesterday. I called one of our two furniture stores and got a recording saying they were still closed, but I got a live person at the second store who told me they were open for business. I went there today and bought a fine new recliner for a reasonable price and they are delivering it tomorrow. I asked the guy why they were still open, and he said they had been closed until yesterday, but his boss called him over the weekend and told him to report for work Monday morning. His boss didn't say why, but the guy thought it might be because they sold appliances as well as furniture. (Hardware stores have remained open all along, I suppose because they have something to do with home maintenance. Our governor has graciously allowed us to leave our homes for the purpose of maintaining our homes.)
I heard on the evening news that Trump has ordered the slaughterhouses to re-open. I don't know if he has the authority to do that, but that's never stopped him before. The slaughterhouses did not close because of anybody's orders, they closed because too many of their employees were coming down sick. It seems their method of operation made it difficult for people to maintain social distancing. My own manufacturing experience tells me that they could probably space their workers farther apart if they just slowed the production line down. They might not turn out as much product, but it would be better than no product at all.
