Nobody thinks that Trump is a true republican. You might think that his base thinks he is, but the truth is that they don't give a fig about the republican party. It is just a convenient means for Trump to gain the reins of power. That's why it is so ironic that they call non Trumpers RINOs.
Of course that was then and this is now. Now the republican party is lock stock and barrel the party of Trump. The current test for a Trumplican is to say the election was stolen. If you won't do that, you are out of the party.
There is this myth that a significant number of elected republicans are just biding their time, waiting for the Trumpstorm to be over, and I kind of believed it for awhile, but I also believed Liz had a fighting chance, I thought that their would be other reps to stand up for her, but now there is Kinzinger, and that's it. No other Trumpican representative dares call it treason.
And how about this, the woman they are running against Cheney is a former moderate? But given the choice to stand up for what she believes in or to toss it in the shitcan and jump on the Trumptrain to advance her career she didn't hesitate a second.
If Trump were to drop dead tomorrow, how are these once republicans ever going to reclaim their party? Are they going to tell the American people well I was lying to you all along about the election, but that was only because I didn't have the backbone to stand up against Trump, but now he is gone, so you can feel ok about voting for me now?
How is Cheney going to run for prez? She has no chance of running in a Trumpican primary, and as an independent, no dem will vote for her nor will the Trumpicans.
