It's About Land

I told you that we didn't have a minority problem in Cheboygan. Indeed, if I didn't watch television, I wouldn't know that there was a minority problem anywhere. It is unlikely that the Cheboygan City Council will ever take anything away from me because I don't live in the city limits. The county likes to play games with the zoning ordinances but, so far, they haven't messed with Beaglesonia. One of the advantages of living in a swamp next to a junk yard is that nobody wants your land.

It's a little different in neighboring Emmet county. While the Indians comprise only a couple percent of the population, I am told that they own more than half of the land, not as individuals, but collectively as a tribe. As far as I know, nobody has a problem with this. The tribal police and DNR officers work cooperatively with the county sheriff's people and the local state DNR officers. It seems that Indians have been quietly buying up land for years, then they turn it over to the federal government "in trust", making it part of the tribal reservation, even though these parcels are not contiguous. I guess I wouldn't have a problem if they did the same thing in our county. Nobody forces anybody to sell their land but, if you publically advertise it for sale, you can't refuse to sell it to an Indian who offers to meet your asking price. I don't feel threatened by our local Indians, the ones I have met seem like nice enough people. I wouldn't even recognize most of them as Indians if I saw them walking down the street.

What you have in Chicago is different than that, or at least it used to be. According to the Anderson book we read, the integration movement was written off as a failure. What I think happened was the Blacks were displacing the Whites block by block until the Hispanics came to town. You said that the Hispanics did not stop the Black takeover, and that, If they hadn't shown up, the city would have lost population like Detroit did. So what did prevent the Blacks from taking over the whole city? Apparently the Whites don't mind being a minority in Chicago. Maybe that's because everybody is a minority in Chicago. Like I said, it's when the minority becomes the majority that the trouble starts.

I'm not sure what I mean by "taking over". That's what people used to say when we were growing up, and I guess I just hung on to it. I don't think it has a lot to do with the government, though. It's the government's job to run things, and I guess it doesn't matter who fills the office a long as he does his job correctly. It's true that, if you peer into the Capitol Building, you will see mostly White people, but not if you peer into the White House, if they even still call it that. You know, the ancient Romans had at least one Black emperor, and Rome eventually went down, but that may have been just a coincidence. All kidding side, one minority family in a neighborhood does not constitute a takeover, it's when you are surrounded by them and you have to leave, or they will make you wish you had.

I suppose Europe doesn't seem crowded to a city slicker like yourself but, to a regular person like me, it was crowded a long time ago. I have a book about the Swedish immigrants who settled the area around Beaglesonia in the late 18th Century. Some of the old timers still call the neighborhood "Swede Town", and there are still some Swedish names on the mailboxes, but nobody speaks the language anymore. Anyway, those guys were all tenant farmers in Sweden because they were not allowed to own land, even if they had the money to buy it, which they didn't. I don't have the numbers, but I believe that, even today, most of the people in Europe are renters. As far as I'm concerned, any place where the average working person can't readily buy real estate, it's crowded.

I suppose you could call me a White supremacist. It's not that I think White people are better than anybody else, it's just that I am a White person. It's natural to prefer the company of your own people to the company of somebody else's people, unless of course you're racked with liberal guilt and feel the need to punish yourself for the sins of others. Should the White people be running the United States forever? Sure, why not? Would you prefer that we be overthrown by somebody else? Is that why you want to bring all those Muslims and Mexicans into the country? What advantage do you hope to gain by that?

I didn't know that about Lincoln and the abolitionists. So they wanted to kick the Blacks off the plantations, but they didn't want to end up living next door to them? Where did they expect them to live? You know, some of the former slaves did end up in, what is today, Liberia. I don't think the U.S. government sent them there, but the British government did give them the territory, after first taking it away from the indigenous Blacks who, I understand, were not pleased about it.

So the bad cops in Chicago pick on the people who don't have power, and the people who do have power don't care? How can this be when the people who do have power are all Democrats? I thought that the Democrats were the champions of the poor and downtrodden masses. The Republicans have their RINOS. Do the Democrats have their DINOS?
