Mr. Beagles may have mentioned what type of rifle Old Betsy is, but I've forgotten. My guess that it's .30 caliber, either bolt or lever action. My knowledge of deer rifles is poor but that sounds about right; deer aren't exactly big game where you would need a larger caliber. I can't think of any common mechanical problems rifles are prone to except for cartridge feeding and ejection, or maybe a trigger issue. Rifles are relatively simple devices so a repair should not be a problem but I could be wrong. Better luck next season, which I think is in the spring for certain kinds of deer.

I am glad to hear that The Oxford Comma (TOC) is making progress, even gaining a convert on the far north side.
Not on the far north side, Uncle Ken. The nephew lives in California now, where he works at LAX. The family is somewhat dumbfounded about how well he is doing at Air Canada; he kind of stumbled into the job when a pal of his was applying for a position and he applied, too. That's what I've heard, but he must have some heretofore unknown skills; he's getting promoted on an almost annual basis, with more responsibility and a higher salary. One of the nicest perks of the job is that he can fly standby just about anywhere, so a short vacation in Tokyo is not out of the question. If he's outside the US he can hang out in the flight deck, which must be very cool.

Hoo, boy! The Twilight Zone in Washington is getting curiouser and curiouser. I don't know what to make of latest from the Tweeter in Chief but he really pissed off the British. We all know that Trump is living in his own reality but how far will it go? A few weeks ago the Justice Department declared that his tweets are to be considered official presidential statements and proclamations, which means they can't be deleted and must be preserved. And they can't be blocked, either, so I have no idea why he continues to spew such nonsense unless it's part of his long game.
Despite his low approval ratings and scandalous behavior, you know he isn't going to quit. I think he is waiting to get tossed out on his ear, unjustly in his mind, and be the martyr, the victim of a rigged system. That sounds like something he could get a lot of mileage out of, even if he does land in jail. He will shift the blame and never accept any responsibility or admit to being wrong. With the possible exception of his family I think all of his cronies, enablers, and sycophants will be thrown under the bus. Personally, because of all the entanglements involving foreign governments, I'd like to see Trump charged with treason but that's just my opinion. I think a good case could be made but it is wishful thinking and I am not a lawyer.
And today Flynn entered a guilty plea as part of the Mueller investigation, admitting to lying to the FBI. The end may not be near but it's getting closer. It can't all be fake news, even the pundits at Fox are starting to grumble a bit but I don't think anyone is ready for Pence, who seems to have been lying low recently. I hope we won't be leaping from the frying pan into the fire. Hilarity will not ensue.
