Loafing around

I'm glad to see that there are many weeks of the tale of the Catfish yet to come.  Stretch it out Uncle Ken, let us savor the story.

The Old Dog is feeling like a chump today, realizing his ignorance of certain philosophical matters.  I must have been dozing when it came up in class, if it ever did, but I'm just not that familiar with Hobbes or Rousseau.  The only Rousseau I knew about was Henri, the French painter.  Although he never left France he was known for some of his jungle paintings, and those got me confused with the works of Gauguin, who lived in the tropics for a while and did a bunch of jungle paintings of his own.  I don't know much art history but I know what I like, and both those guys were okay.  Meanwhile, I'll let you guys chew over the topic of the basis of civilization and society; I'm always learning something.

I'm slowly getting the hang of the art of baking bread even if I have a lot of mistakes to eat.  Success with sourdough is eluding me but I'm getting closer.  Regular bread has been a bit problematic because I don't know when to stop kneading and the dough doesn't rise correctly.  My best luck has been with an old style country loaf, a round boule, with a good and crunchy crust.  This kind of bread needs no kneading, which makes things a lot simpler.  I still have a lot of different flours to play with so maybe I can come up with something special like a barley/buckwheat loaf.
