the power of trump
I think these people who think that Trump is putting on some masterful act are all wrong. I think he is just being himself, opening his mouth and marveling at what comes out and flying by the seat of his pants and probably having the time of his life.
I agree that most (all) politicians are actors. Like I said before they have that split section delay thing before they speak, and what they say isn't necessarily what they think, but what they think would be the best answer to promote their political future. Trump doesn't consider anything when he speaks.
There have been other non-politicians who got into the game. I am thinking of Jesse Ventura here. I wasn't too familiar with his campaign it being up north, but I do remember one interview I saw where he said he believed in flying saucers. The interviewer was surprised, really? Jesse shrugged, it's just what i believe. I certainly do not believe in flying saucers, but I have to say, I rather admired Jesse for saying what he believed. There are surely other pols who believe in flying saucers, but they would never admit it, because they think it would hurt their political futures. But you know they wouldn't flat out say they didn't believe in flying saucers either because they wouldn't want to offend that part of their constituency believed in flying saucers.
They would say something like we need to consider blah blah blah, throw in some cake icer in Paducah who couldn't afford healthcare or some baker in Muskogee who had to close his business because of crippling regulations, blah, blah, blah, so what we have to do is raise/lower taxes on the rich. Eventually you are going to walk away wondering why you ever listened to this guy, and thinking maybe I'll vote for this Ventura guy because at least he said he believed in flying saucers, or maybe he said he didn't, it's hard to remember after listening to that windbag, but either way he said what he believed and that's what's getting my vote.
I am thinking of Reagan. I don't remember anymore what he was like on the stump, but he was well-liked. Even I who hated his policies, rather liked the guy. But now that I think about it, he was an actor. You know I would like to get into that whole cult of Reagan that rules the republican party, but I don't have the time to get to it this morning, and by the time I get around to it there might not be any republican party anymore.
Back to Trump. Another thing he has done is break the surly bonds of truth. I heard him talking to Wolf yesterday and when asked about that birther thing he said, you know who started that whole birther thing? Hilary Clinton.
Wolf was taken aback, but he didn't say anything. I know what Wolf was thinking. Of course Hilary didn't start the birther thing, but there was something, maybe something she said about something else that could be construed to mean something, or something taken out of context or, well something. Pols take some little bit of random flotsam and weave a garment of whole cloth out of it. They do it all the time, no big deal. So Wolf registered some doubt, but he let it pass.
Meanwhile you know the CNN fact checkers were going into overdrive and apparently they didn't find anything because after the interview was over Wolf announced that there is no evidence that Hilary was ever part of the birther movement. But by then, of course, Trump had gotten off scotch free with his accusation.
Hilary got her teat in the wringer in West Virginia the other day because somebody there reminded her that she had said something like coal has got to go, and she claimed she had misspoken, what she had really meant was blah, blah, blah. Donald would simply have said he never said it, and when someone said they had a videotape he would have said something about doctoring tapes and the media always lies and isn't that Rosie O'Donnell a big loser, and get away with it.
A guy who gets away with that is hard to beat.
