I think the more traditional conservatives of your ilk don’t like
the global economy because they don’t like anything foreign, they are the ones
who would like high tariffs and self sufficiency for the nation, whereas the new
guys on the Republican block, the libertarians, love it because they love free
untrammeled capitalism. Where do libertarians stand on one world ism? Wouldn’t
that seem like a good thing, if the world was all libertarian? The early
commies were hell bent on worldwide communism and the neocons are for imposing
worldwide democracy, so why are the libertarians so isolationist? And come to
think of it, you never hear about libertarians in other countries. Do you know
of any?
And speaking of worldwide, those war drums seem to be beating
mighty hard after those two beheadings. So far even the warmongiest of them
all, is still ending their threats with no boots on the ground, which
sounds a little silly because, if the situation is so desperate why not boots on
the ground and if it’s not that serious why are we getting
involved?
Personally I think if Obama puts even the tippiest toe of a boot on
the ground, most all politicians will be with him, because nobody in political
office wants to be a damned peacenik when their country goes marching off to
war. Myself of course I am against it because then aren’t we allying ourselves
with Assad and Iran, and shouldn’t they be doing the fighting anyway? And what
do we think we are going to do, swoop in and vanquish ISIS, and then just swoop
out? That swooping out is always much harder than it looked when we were
swooping in.
I don’t know how this will work out in actual practice but
theoretically once Obamacare is operating at full force people will be able to
get their insurance at the exchanges, and employers won’t need to offer it and
then they can afford to hire full time employees. The sooner we can decouple
employment and health insurance the better, but that is a long way down the
road.
I think this conservative notion of Mexican immigrants living high
off the hog on American welfare is a canard. I don’t know of any statistics
that support it.
Let me try to understand this thing where if people are throwing
their money away, you’ll be glad to take it because otherwise somebody less
deserving than you will get it. Of course it could be somebody more deserving
than you that might get it if you didn’t take it. I don’t know how one ranks
people on the more or less deserving scale, but it seems like you think you are
very high up on it.
The implication of what you are saying seems to be that maybe it
would be better if they just didn’t throw money away, so would you be happy to
give up your social security as long as nobody else got it too?
I’m with you, easier to be an open oddball than to try to be one of
the herd because it’s hard to be pretending to be something else, and most
likely you would be found out anyway.
