God can do anything that he wants to do, but He doesn't have to do anything that He doesn't want to do. Therefore, if God gave us an imperfect world, He must have wanted to do that. Since we do not believe that God speaks directly to people, we can only speculate about His motives for doing or not doing anything. One theory is that we are a species in training. If God did everything for us, we would never learn how to do anything for ourselves.
I agree with Old Dog about people's historical fascination with Doomsday scenarios. This might be attributed to the way children's parents always bail them out when they get in over their heads. I suppose they never quite outgrow the idea that, when all else fails, somebody bigger and stronger than them will come to their rescue.
Speaking of the Second Coming, it seems to me that it would be more accurate to call it the "Third Coming". The First Coming was when Jesus was born in Bethlehem. The Second Coming was when He rose from the grave, hung around with His friends for awhile, and then ascended into Heaven. Ipso facto, if He ever visits us again, it will be the Third Coming.
Yup, those are the pencil boxes that we had in our first few grades of school. I seem to remember the ones with the sliders but, by the time I figured out what they were for, I had already memorized the multiplication tables. I doubt that our teachers would have allowed us to use them during a test anyway.
