I'm not going to go so far and proclaim that Chicago has been blessed with extraordinarily fine weather this summer but compared to many other places we are doing quite nicely. No flooding like they had on the east coast, no drought and fires like on the west coast, and nothing like the torrid temperatures in Europe. Neither the people not the infrastructure was prepared for those high temperatures and they are suffering; not many air conditioners in that part of the world.

Just when I thought things couldn't get any screwier I keep reading about this QAnon movement, a very fringe group of conspiracy theorists in support of Trump. The origins of QAnon are murky; it could be an individual, a group of like-minded screwballs, or the effort of a foreign entity. We may never know for sure but these guys sound dangerous to me.
That's one of the big problems of the current political narrative; if you repeat a lie long enough it becomes it's own truth. It takes much more effort to disprove a lie than it does to say it and people get worn out and tired from trying to do so. They may not give up but they become numb, not knowing how much further down the rabbit hole they will have to go. And the liars don't care; they are happy to control the narrative and sow distrust and confusion among their opponents. And it's working; we are sliding further down a slippery slope to god knows what.
With any luck, Trump will face charges of witness tampering by having the lovely Hope Hicks join him on Air Force One for that rally in Ohio. That might bring a smile to Melania's face; she's not having any trouble openly disagreeing with her hubby's policies and tweets. I'm glad she has Secret Service protection. She may need it.

Do you guys remember the song "Mr. Sandman" by The Chordettes, circa 1958? I found a new a capella version which is impressive. The girl who sings it is an audio/visual wizard and this is how you can make money on YouTube.

An example of how we may never see eye to eye with Europe: the Food and Drug Administration requires eggs to be washed to avoid salmonella. The European Union requires eggs to be unwashed to avoid salmonella. And American eggs require refrigeration while the European eggs don't. This is the kind of thing that baffles me.
