The cheese stands alone

When I scroll down past my I call it progress, Asshole. post the next thing up is Beagles' post.

What is the deal with fonts?  Why are there so Goddamn many of them?  Who cares?

A lot of people, and not just type designers.  Many studies have been done about the readability of type styles in different applications.  A type face that works well on the printed page may not be very legible on a computer screen, and vice versa.  The page design and layout is also a consideration; some pages look better than others but we can't always say exactly why because the differences are subtle.

Typography is it's own strange art.  I read an article about the redesign of a typeface for telephone books (remember those?).  Some guys came up with a typeface that was tweaked enough that more information could be on a page without any loss of legibility.  This reduced the number of pages to be printed and thus saved money.

Regardless of the typeface used, somewhere along the line a designer made a decision and it may not have been the right one.

YouTube food channels?

Yes, indeed, but more properly, cooking channels.  Some folks like eating the same thing everyday, but not me and the way that the same ingredients can be prepared in so many different ways is fascinating.  Slight variations in preparation and technique can yield a completely different dish and if you fiddle a little with spices the sky's the limit.  And playing with fire is always fun, isn't it?  I like the way that cooking responds well to experimenting; I read an article about making a grilled cheese sandwich with mayonnaise instead of butter, and I thought, "No way!"  But damn, the result was tasty but proper cheese choice is critical.  I like Colby but Cheddar is good, too, but their melting characteristics can be fussy.  The experiments will continue.
