Beagles pretty well sums up what I am thinking about as far as economic inequality. My only other question was, is it a legitimate goal for the government to pursue. But I guess if the voters think it is than it is, much as the purveyors of inequality, or more specifically that specific economic inequality that favors themselves, pursue economic inequality with their armies of lobbyists all the time.
I've known gestalt for some time but umvelt is a new one on me. I wonder where Old Dog came across it. Is it a budding buzzword? Seems like it means a worldview specific to a person or group. I have my umvelt, you have yours, Trumpists have theirs, and so do the Chinese. In defense of, ahem, Objective Reality, I do maintain that even though we have our own little umvelts they are all just different glimpses of the one and only true Objective Reality.
I don't know where I got Finders Keepers from. I get a lot of my movies from trailers while watching other movies, and sometimes when my queue is low I google 100 best movies of 2015 or something like that. At first I was disappointed to see that it was a documentary, but of course it turned out that that was a feature, not a bug. Had it been a made up story it would have been too cornball. I kind of liked Shannon's wife. She seemed like the only person in the story who knew how stupid it was, but she still went along with it because she was standing by her man. I saw a couple other docs lately, Wiener and Cartel Land, about a guy who set up an anti drug vigilante group in Mexico. I always wonder what effect having these documentary crews following you around has on the story. Is this a case of clashing umvelts?
I don't know about Deterrence. It has no big stars which is a good thing, at least it probably doesn't end with Harrison Ford punching someone in the mouth, but the phrase political thriller saps my enthusiasm. Thrillers, romcoms, feelgood movies, all end up on my shit heap.
Listening to NPRs pledge drive, I hear where they promote the idea that their stories are researched and judged and edited so that they are not just a bunch of crap.; From my political sites I see that the media is really jumping on this three million votes, pizzeria child sex slave thing, but I don't know how big it is going over with Joe Sixpack, The democratic pols jump on it a bit but not that hard because they are pols as well as dems, so a little legerdemain on the high wire between truth and falsehood is business as usual. The repubs are all under the shroud of Dumbo, so they dare not say anything lest the they run afoul of the great man.
Oh and then there is the matter of the four billion for Boeing which isn't four billion, and the idea where somebody said he sold his stocks, but nobody knows whether that's true or not.
